Hold Off On Buying Third-Party Apple Lightning Cables for the iPhone 5

If you are looking to pickup a third-party ‘Lightning’ cable for your new iPhone 5, you might want to hold off for a while. Apple has a lockout chip built into their new USB cables that will prevent the device from syncing with the computer via USB.

You can still buy a Lightning to USB cable directly from Apple for $19.99, which isn’t terrible, but it does not specify the length of the cable. I’m also certain that there will be adapters out soon so your previous iPhone / iPod / iPad Docks won’t be completely useless.
