Microsoft Buys Skype for 8 Billion
Microsoft just announced the purchase of Skype for 8 billion USD. Microsoft has shown interest in the company after eBay lost interest in it in 2009, and the purchase was rumored by Gigaom on the 8th.
This purchase represents the largest Microsoft acquisition in over 30 years – hopefully it will bring free group video chat and some more stable GUI to Skype, which has been finicky over the past few releases.
Awesome Thought: Skype + Microsoft Kinect – it would be really interesting if they could do work with that – maybe incorporate some 3D or motion sensing into it.
