Node Handheld Sensor Looks Like Star Trek Medical Tricorder

Variable Technologies just put out several external Bluetooth smartphone sensors called Nodes.  The Node is about the size and shape of a roll of quarters, uses Bluetooth 4.0 and features an accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, barometer, thermometer, altimeter  light-meter, humidity meter, heat-mapping, and programmable LEDs.  The device is currently working for iOS 4 and on several Android devices.

 

The device looks awfully familiar to a device featured on Star Trek The Next Generation – a Medical Tricorder.
