Razer OSVR (Open Source VR) Headset Launching This Year

Razer has an interesting offering at this year’s CES: An open sourced virtual reality headset, called OSVR. OSVR is currently scheduled for a June 2015 release for developers, but will also be completely hardware and software open-sourced. If you have the technical skills and access to the hardware, you will be able to build one of these on your own later this year.

Razer is not intending on the headset being a competitor to the Oculus and other HMDs, but an open sourced development platform for VR. The OSVR Hacker Dev Kit will be available for download in the near future. If you do not want to build your own dev kit, they will be taking pre-orders for $199.99 and intend on shipping the kits in June of 2015.
